Man bludgeons mother, wife to death over family feud in Jharsuguda

Brajarajnagar: A man allegedly bludgeoned his mother and wife to death today over a trivial family issue at Kalimandir-Mistripada locality of Katarabag village under Rengali police limits in Jharsuguda.

The deceased elderly woman was identified as Jhima Khadia (85) and her daughter-in-law as Saibani Khadia (55). The accused man was identified as Kuthul Khadia (58), a police source said.

According to Brajarajnagar SDPO Gupteswar Bhoi, it is suspected based on prima facie evidence that the fatal incident took place when both Jhima and Saibani were asleep in their house. Entire floor of the room in which they were sleeping was stained with blood as the duo was bludgeoned with stone.

The body of Jhima was found on a cot inside the room and the body of Saibani was seen on another cot near an adjoining verandah of the house. The alleged murder was conducted at around 3 pm.

At about 4.30 pm, Kuthul came to the in-laws’ house of his daughter located at Kalimandir Square and told that somebody has killed the two women. Kuthul’s daughter and her husband rushed to the spot. Subsequently, on learning about the mishap, some neighbours informed the local police.

Some co-villagers had seen both Kuthul and Saibani earlier in the day while the couple was bringing rice from local panchayat office, few residents of Katarabag expressed. “The reason behind untimely deaths of the two women has not been ascertained yet,” a senior official in Rengali police station stated.

On the other hand, Kuthul’s son Dillip residing at Kusumil has lodged an FIR with Rengali police. Acting on which, IIC K Samaria and SDPO Bhoi reached the spot and launched a probe in this connection.

A detailed investigation is underway with the help of a scientific team from Brajarajnagar.
