Man detained over alleged killing of his minor daughter in Odisha’s Ganjam; probe on

Khallikote: A man was detained for interrogation today by a probe team for allegedly killing his 9-year-old daughter, for reasons not known yet, at a village under Khallikote police limits in Ganjam district.

The body of the victim minor girl was spotted in the morning under suspicious circumstances inside a room of the accused’s house.

The accused has been identified as Gopal Behera. Gopal was suspected to have killed the minor after a younger brother of the deceased hinted on the incident before mediapersons.

“My sister was roasting cashew nuts. My father beat her over this. Later she died. I was present there and seen,” the victim minor’s younger brother expressed.

On being informed, a team of Khallikote police reached the spot and seized the minor’s body. Police have initiated a probe into the unnatural death, which is underway.

“We will send the body for post-mortem and the cause of death can be ascertained only after a report comes in,” a senior cop said when contacted.
