Man dies of snakebite, wife critical in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar: A man was killed and his wife was rushed to hospital in a critical condition when they were bitten by a poisonous snake in Chakapada area of Kandhamal district of Odisha in the wee hours of today.

The deceased has been identified as Bimala Kanhar of Panduli village under Linepada police outpost in Kandhamal. Bimal’s wife Satyabhama is now battling for life at Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

According to sources, the couple was reportedly bitten by a poisonous snake when they were asleep in their house.

They were immediately rushed to Khajuripada Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. Bimal died while being treated at the hospital. Satyabhama was shifted to Phulbani DHH after her condition deteriorated, sources said.
