Man drowns while taking bath in Mahanadi in Odisha’s Cuttack city

Bhubaneswar: A man reportedly drowned in Mahanadi river while taking bath at Gadagadia ghat in Odisha’s Cuttack city today.

The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Nayak of Sutahata Upar Sahi.

The incident took place while Nayak was taking bath at Gadagadia ghat at around 10 am in the morning.

Nayak got drifted towards deep water and went missing after he slipped his feet while bathing, sources said.

On being informed, Cantonment police and Fire Brigade personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.

They later fished out Nayak’s body from the river.

“We deployed a scuba diver for the rescue operation,” said Cuttack Assistant Fire Officer Sanjeev Behera.

Nayak’s family members, meanwhile, claimed that he was suffering for some mental illness for last few days.

“Jagannath was under medication. He got married to a woman of Puri a few years ago. The couple has a daughter,” said Loknath Nayak, a relative of the deceased.
