Man gets 20-year jail term for raping minor girl in Cuttack

Cuttack: The Special POCSO Court today sentenced a 40-year-old man to  20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in Nishchintakoili  area of Cuttack district in April, 2014.

Besides, the court fined convict Karunakara Kandi of Rs 11,000, failing to pay which he will have to undergo one year more jail term.

POCSO Court and Additional Sessions Judge Bandana Kar also asked the Government  to pay compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh compensation to the victim under Section 357-A of CrPC.

On April 21, 2014, when the 13-year-old  girl had gone to her aunt’s house to watch Ram Navami Jatra, Karunakara raped her finding her alone in the house. The convict had also tied her hands and legs while committing the crime.  After a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, police had registered a case and begun an investigation into the incident.

Following a thorough probe, the police filed chargesheet in court under Sections- 376 (2) (i), 452, 506 of IPC and Section-4 of POCSO Act.
