Man gets 20-year RI by POCSO court for raping minor in Jajpur

Panikoili: A man identified as Purnachandra Mallick was sentenced 20-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) by special POCSO court Judge Janaki Biswal today for kidnapping and raping a minor in Jajpur.

The school girl was kidnapped on October 31, 2019 at a place under Panikoili police limits in the district, when the nine-year-old rape survivor was going to her school on the intervening day after having her lunch at home in recess, a senior police official stated.

The house of the accused is located between the minor girl’s house and her school. Taking advantage of loneliness, the man forcibly lifted the minor girl from the road and took her to his house and raped her. He also threatened the victim with dire consequences, in case she reveals the incident.

After escaping from the clutches of the accused and coming back home, the girl told her father about her plight. She was wreathing in pain following the fatal mishap.

However, the next morning, the rape survivor’s father lodged an FIR with the local police.

Based on the statements made by at least 20 witnesses, Purnachandra was awarded the RI. The man has been imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 and he will undergo further imprisonment of six months in case he fails to pay the penalty amount, public prosecutor Rajiv Mohanty said.
