Man gets 7-year RI for raping minor in Odisha

A local court in Odisha today sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor four years ago.

Adjudicating over the case, Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Bijay Kumar Patra pronounced the quantum of punishment today and awarded seven year jail term to Jaga Pangi.

Besides awarding seven years jail, the court imposed a penalty of Rs 25, 000 on him failing which the convict will undergo additional 18 months jail term.

“The court examined 11 witnesses and pronounced the judgement. The court awarded seven-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25, 000. Out of the penalty imposed, half of it would go to the victim,” special public prosecutor Ramanath Mishra informed.

As per reports, Jaga allegedly raped a minor girl from Dhoba Sahi on April 20, 2013. The victim’s father had lodged an FIR with Town Police after which the accused was arrested and forwarded to court.
