Man hacks wife to death over family feud in Odisha’s Kalahandi, absconding

Jaipatna: A middle-aged woman was hacked to death late yesterday night by her husband following an altercation at Tingopakan village of Alabhata panchayat under Jaipatna police limits in Kalahandi district. The incident came to the fore after police suo motu registered a case in this connection today.

The deceased woman was identified as 45-year-old Mangaladei Majhi and the accused man as Budhu Majhi from the village. The family of the victim had not lodged any FIR with the local police till morning.

According to a police source, the couple had a verbal spat over an issue not known yet. However, things took an ugly turn when in a fit of rage Budhu attacked his wife leading to her untimely death.

On being tipped off about the incident, Jaipatna police reached the village and seized the body of the woman. Police have sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem and launched a probe, which is underway.

Budhu fled from the spot soon after committing the crime and is absconding, a senior cop said.
