Man ‘hangs’ self fearing going to jail after strangling elder brother in Odisha’s Angul

Talcher: A man died by suicide today as local police had launched a manhunt to nab him for allegedly strangling his elder brother to death two days ago at Tentuloi village under Bikrampur police limits in Talcher locality of Angul district.

The deceased man was identified as Pabana Bhoi, who belonged to Talcher.

According to a source, the two brothers had indulged in an altercation on the intervening day over a trivial matter on Tuesday (November 21). However, things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, Pabana strangled his elder brother Anil Bhoi with his hands. Pabana fled from the spot soon after committing the crime and had been absconding since then to escape the eyes of the police.

When the police were searching for Pabana, the accused hanged himself at around 11.00 am.

Some locals spotted the man while hanging with the help of a towel from a tree and informed it to the police. A team of Bikrampur police reached the spot and seized the body. Police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the death of the accused.

When contacted, Bikrampur IIC Manoj Pradhan said, “Primary evidence suggests that Pabana died by suicide by hanging from a tree near his house fearing going to jail.”
