Man held for selling tea under popular brand name in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan police here arrested a person on charges of running a tea packaging unit under a popular brand name on the city outskirts.

Sources said Kanda Das (32), son of one Kahna Charan Das of Tangi village, was selling tea with duplicate packaging in popular brand name of ‘Tata Tea Premium’. After purchasing tea and packing materials at cheap prices, Kanda used to do the packaging under ‘Tata Tea Premium’ label at his house.

Acting on a tip-off about this illegal business, the Nandankana police conducted a raid and seized two bags of tea, packing machine and plastic wraps from the unit. The cops also arrested Kanda and later forwarded him to court.

Yesterday, Bhadrak police busted a spurious tobacco manufacturing unit operating at Prachinagar under Bhadrak Rural police limits. Duplicate ‘Zarda’ (a local tobacco item) worth lakhs of rupees, various equipment and machines and labels of several tobacco brands were seized from the place. However, the prime accused managed to flee the spot before the raid.
