Man held for tying wife to tree, thrashing her in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: The police today arrested a man for allegedly tying his wife to a tree and thrashing her following a heated argument between the couple. The incident took place in Phogala village under Salepur police limits in Cuttack district.

The accused Dhira Mallik and his wife Kunlata had frequent arguments due to the former’s drinking habits.

As per information, recently Dhira Mallik mortgaged his son-in-law’s cycle and spent the money on liquor consumption. Dhira’s daughter suffered due to his actions as her in-laws started harassing her for not receiving the cycle back.

When Kunilata learned about their daughter’s suffering, she confronted her husband Dhira about the matter. The arguments heated up and a furious Dhira dragged his wife to a tree near the house. He then tied her to it and mercilessly beat her.

Seeing this, the locals immediately intervened and rescued the woman.

Soon after a video of this incident went viral, the Salepur police arrested Dhira and admitted his injured wife to Salepur hospital.

Kunilata later filed a complaint accusing her husband for trying to beat her to death.
