In a tragic incident, a youth was trampled to death by an elephant at Baula village in Gurudijhatia area here in Odisha's Cuttack district late late night.

The deceased was identified as Tikam Sahoo of Sasanga village here.

According to reports, Tikam came in front of an elephant when he was returning home on a bicycle. The pachyderm dragged him with its trunk and crushed his head to death, sources said.

After the body was spotted by locals this morning, they staged a road blockade on NH-55 at Baula Chhak demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased.

Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road due to the blockade.
