Khaira: A man was killed today in a road accident near Bhimanathpur Chhak on Dhobagadia-Ranital road under Khaira police limits in Balasore, while returning home after dropping his son at school.

The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Rashmiranjan Behera, who belonged to Singidi village under Khaira PS in the district.

According to an eyewitness, “Rashmiranjan was riding a bicycle and was on his way back home early in the morning when a speeding sports utility vehicle (SUV) coming from Kupari side hit him from the front. He met with a fatal accident after dropping his son at Barapur Saraswati Sishu Mandir.”

“Rashmiranjan died on the spot following the road mishap,” the eyewitness expressed.

On the other hand, hundreds of incensed locals detained the SUV driver and staged a roadblock demanding adequate compensation for the deceased’s next of kin. The villagers protested by burning tyres on the road, as a result, vehicular movement was completely disrupted for long hours.

On being informed, Khaira police reached the accident site and launched a probe.
