Man killed over sorcery in Odisha’s Rayagada; police recover buried body

Rayagada: Police yesterday recovered the buried body of a 55-year-old man who was allegedly killed over suspicion of practising sorcery at Panashapadara village under Tikiri police limits in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

The gruesome incident took place on June 13 and came to fore after the wife of the deceased filed an FIR at Tikiri police station.

According to reports, wives of Mangulu and Attara, two youths of the village, used to fall sick at regular intervals for which their husbands suspected Bharat Kumbhara of practising sorcery.

On the fateful day, Mangulu and Attara allegedly stoned Bharat to death. They dragged the body to an isolated place on the outskirts of the village and buried it.

Acting on the complaint filed by Bharat’s wife, police, along with a scientific team, reached the village yesterday and recovered the body.

Registering a murder case, police arrested Mangulu and Attara from the village and forwarded them to court.
