Man killed with sharp weapon over suspected sorcery in Odisha’s Kalahandi; 3 detained

Bhawanipatna: An elderly man was allegedly killed by his younger brother’s son over past enmity and suspected sorcery at Sikerguda of Jugasaipatana panchayat under Sadar police limits in Kalahandi, today. Police have detained the victim’s younger brother and his two sons in this connection.

The deceased elderly man was identified as Jala Naik, who belonged to Sikerguda in the district. The accused youth has been identified as Sahadev Naik from the village. However, police are interrogating Sahadev, his father and younger brother, an official source said.

According to the police source, the elderly man was having frequent altercations with the accused’s family over sorcery suspicion. A police case was also earlier registered for this reason.

Jala was attacked with a sharp weapon when he was going to his farmland in the morning.

On being informed by locals, Sadar police reached the crime spot and seized the body of Jala. Police have registered a murder case in this connection and launched a probe, which is underway. Police also sent the body to a nearby health facility for post-mortem, a senior police official said.
