Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a man killed his 5-year-old son and hung his body after wife allegedly eloped with someone else in Odisha's Sundargarh district.

The accused has been identified as Raju Lakra, a resident of Sitalpada slum under Udit Nagar police limits.

According to reports, Gunu Lakra went away with another man leaving her husband Raju Lakra and their 5-year-old son following quarrel two days ago.

Reacting over the incident, Raju allegedly killed his child out of fury and hung the body with a dupatta inside his home today morning.

However, the accused's wife dismissed 'elopement' allegation and claimed that Raju killed her son in her absence at home.

"My husband killed my so. He might be knowing the reason behind the murder. We had fought over some issues the day before yesterday. I went to my sister's house, and he did not allow me to take my son with me. Today, he killed my son," alleged Gunu Lakra, the bereaved mother.

Speaking on the incident, the couple's neighbour said, "Raju had come to me with his son yesterday and alleged that his wife has eloped with another guy in a two-wheeler. When he tried to obstruct them, that person hit his bicycle and fled. He was looking mentally unstable. Today morning, we found his child's body hanging with a dupatta inside the house."

A case has been registered at the Udit Nagar Police Station following the complaint by the deceased child's mother.

"As per complaint lodged by mother of the deceased, her husband killed their son in her absence. Taking serious note of the incident, a case has been filed and investigation has been initiated based on the prima facie," said DSP Anil Kumar Pradhan.
