Man posing as revenue official defrauds woman with job offer in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A fake revenue official was arrested on charges of defrauding a woman and few others with job offer here in the city.

Nityananda Mallick (42), a resident of Singhpur village under Kuakhia police limits of Jajpur district, was arrested by the Commissionerate police following a complaint by the duped woman at Khandagiri police station.

According to reports, Mallick had been visiting a woman namely Kalpana Rout at her residence in Dumduma area posing himself as Dinabandhu Nayak, a senior officer in Revenue department. Another woman namely Satyabhama Das, who was working at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, as a security personnel, had met Mallick at Kalpana’s house. During interaction, he allured her of offering a clerical job in Board of Revenue office in Cuttack for which he demanded Rs 25,000 in first installment.

He asked her to pay rest Rs 25,000 after receiving appointment offer for the job. When she consulted Kalpana on the job promise made by Mallick, the latter suggested her for payment saying she had also paid him for the same reason. After being assured by her friend, she trusted the man and as per the deal she paid him initial installment for the job.

Reports said that the accused had made false promises of offering jobs in the revenue department and duped around 20 unemployed youth of Rs 12 lakh.

After Satyabhama realised that Mallick was a fraud, she filed a complaint with the Khandagiri police against him for fraudulence.

Following arrest of the accused, the police forwarded him to a local court that turned down his bail plea and sent him to Jharpada jail.
