A man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on Friday for raping a minor girl in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

Pronouncing the sentence, the District and Sessions Judge Court slapped the accused with Rs 10,000 fine.

Subash Mirdha (24) of Beherenbasa village in Sambalpur district was accused of raping a 6-year-old girl of his village on September 11, 2013. Alluring her with biscuits, he took the little girl to a secluded place where he raped.

The mother of the victim lodged a complaint with Jujumara police station against Mirdha 15 days after he did not attend the meeting called at the village.

The court found him guilty. Hearing the case on Friday, Special Judge Saroj Kumar Pati awarded him 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped him with Rs 10,000 fine, out of which Rs 5,000 will be given to the victim.
