Man sentenced to 7 yrs RI for raping minor in Odisha

A local court in Odisha Mayurbhanj district today sentenced a 23-year-old man to seven-years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

The accused identified as Deepak Kumar Singh was convicted under sections 376, 451 of the IPC and section 4 of POCSO (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act by the Mayurbhanj District Sessions Court.

Judge Amiya Ranjan Jena sentenced Singh to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment after his conviction.

The court before convicting Singh had recorded statements of 15 witnesses.

It may be mentioned here that Singh was arrested on charge of raping a minor girl at Gorudabasa village on April 3, 2015 while she was alone at home.

Singh was arrested after the girl’s mother had lodged an FIR with the local police.
