Man sentenced to 20 years RI for raping minor girl in Odisha’s Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A special fast-track court today sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl. The convict was identified as Mohan Kumar Kundu, son of Ramesh Kundu who hails from Bhagibindha village under Dhamnagar police limits in Bhadrak district.

The convict was also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 by Justice Minati Panda of the fast track court. Mohan shall have to undergo imprisonment for an additional period of six months in case he fails to pay the fine amount, the court ordered.

According to a source, on the evening of January 13, 2022, 34-year-old Mohan lured the minor girl from the same village by giving her chocolate and other eatables. He had taken the girl to a secluded place on the Reba riverbank near the village and outraged her modesty. Accused Mohan even threatened the victim with dire consequences in case she disclosed the incident to anyone.

After returning home, the minor narrated her plight to her mother. The next morning, the woman lodged an FIR at Dhamnagar police station. Acting on this, police had registered a case [No-15/2022, under Sections 376(3), 506 of the IPC and Sections 4, 1 of the POSCO Act] and initiated a probe.

Mohan was arrested two days after the intervening evening and sent to jail.
