Man sentenced to 20 years RI for raping minor girl in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: A first track court today sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a minor girl in Cuttack district in 2019. The convict, identified as the rape survivor’s maternal grandfather Gopal Singh, was imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in addition to the imprisonment.

According to official sources, the convict had raped the minor girl at a place under Madhupatana police limits of Cuttack.

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Cuttack was ordered by the fast track court to pay the victim girl a compensation of Rs 3 lakh, the source added.

Worth mentioning, earlier on November 29, three youths were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Special POCSO court for gangraping a minor girl in Patana locality of Keonjhar district. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of them.
