Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Odisha’s Ganjam

Aska: The Additional District and Sessions Judge court in Berhampur city sentenced today a man to life imprisonment for stabbing his wife to death in Ganjam district. The convict man identified as Simanchal Mishra resides in a rented house near Ashoka cinema hall under Aska police limits.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict along with the lifer. The man will undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for four months more, in case he fails to pay the fine amount.

According to an official source, Simanchal is a native of Panchasinghapur Sasan under Dharakote police limits in the district. He had married to Laxmi Priya from Harekrushnapur under Sheragad police limits around 28 years ago. The couple has two sons namely Sridhar and Subham.

Elder son Sridhar works in the Indian Army and the younger son is a student. Sridhar was sending money every month to meet the household expenses. However, Simanchal used to beat his wife often in an inebriated condition. On the intervening day (October 9, 2023), Simanchal asked for money from his wife and an altercation erupted thereafter leading to the woman’s death.

Subsequently, acting on an FIR lodged by the man’s sons, Aska police had launched a probe.
