Man sets wife on fire in Odisha capital; couple, daughter injured

Bhubaneswar: A couple and their three-year-old daughter suffered serious burn injuries reportedly after setting wife on fire over family feud here this morning.

The incident occurred at 8.00 am on Saturday near Kapileswar canal area on outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The victims were identified as Ajay Das (40), his wife Janaki Das (32) and their youngest daughter Ranu. The trio was taken to the Capital Hospital in critical condition.

According to reports, Ajay and his wife had disturbances in the past four days over his addiction to toxic substances. Even the couple had been to the police station yesterday following a clash between them.

However, the family dispute turned uglier when Ajay set her wife on fire out of anger. While pouring kerosene on her wife, some drops had also poured on him and his daughter. After he set her wife ablaze, he along with his daughter caught the fire.

The Lingaraj police rushed to the spot and rescued the trio. The victims were rushed to the Capital Hospital for treatment. The condition of Ajay’s wife is stated to be critical.

However, Ajay’s mother and the couple’s another two daughters are safe as they were sleeping in other room during the incident.
