Bhubaneswar: A person was shot dead while his daughter sustained bullet injuries in a firing incident over land dispute in Khallikot area of Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Kumar Behera of Kumunda village under Khallikot police limits, sources said.

Bijay’s daughter Gayatri Behera sustained injuries in the incident, they added.

According to sources, the in-laws of Gayatri were engaged in a land dispute with one of their close relatives for the last few days.

Gayatri had invited Bijay to mediate between the two quarreling parties to solve the dispute. However, Prashant Kumar Behera, a member of the rival family, opened fire on Bijay, sources said.

A critically-injured Bijay was rushed to a hospital at Polsara, where he was declared dead on arrival.
