Man smashes wife to death in Odisha capital

In a ghastly incident in the Odisha capital late on Saturday night a husband who was allegedly drunk brutally murdered his wife by smashing her with a stone pestle.

Police sources said Harjit Singh (35), a native of Punjab residing on rent at Malianta under Laxmisagar police limits came home in a drunken state around midnight on Saturday on finding his wife Sasmita Singh (27) asleep, in a fit of rage smashed her with a stone  pestle.

“The husband-wife used to regularly quarrel among themselves and had a similar quarrel today. After returning home drunk at midnight Harjit finding his wife asleep hit her with a stone pestle. On hearing the wife’s scream neighbours rushed into Harjit’s place but Sasmita was dead by then,” said a police official.

Accused Harjit was overpowered by the locals who handed him over to the police. The couple has a son and a daughter.

Police have arrested Harjit and is investigating the murder. Forensic team has begun investigation in the matter.
