Bhubaneswar, Jan 3 :

The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested a man and his son on charges of online ATM fraud  and registered a case against the duo.

However, there is no clarity on the exact amount of money involved in this alleged fraud.

The accused identified as Budhibaman Jena and his son Biswajit Jena belong to Brahmagiri in Puri district. They were staying at the Kalinga Basti in Badagada BRIT colony here, police said.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), Bhubaneswar Nitinjeet Singh, Budhibaman was caught red handed by the Laxmisagar police today when he was about to sell a television set to a dealer in his area.

The father-son duo used to snoop on ATM users at the ATM counters and collect information on their card and PIN numbers, police said. However, the details of how they managed to do this are yet not known.

“The two accused used to watch over the customer from behind and remember the PIN and later using the same number to buy different things online,” said the DCP, adding, that they were trying to determine the total number of ATM offences the duo had committed.

Acting on the complaints lodged by different customers over online stealing of their money, the Commissionerate police tracked down the suspects after an intensive investigation.

The police also seized several articles from their possession.
