Man stabs sister-in-law in Cuttack; absconds

Cuttack: A man allegedly attempted to kill his sister-in-law (brother’s wife) by stabbing her with a sharp weapon over land dispute at Pahanaga village under Niali police limits in Cuttack district last night.

However, critically-injured Kadambini Barik is currently undergoing treatment a SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Sources said accused Ganesh Barik attacked Kadambini with a sharp weapon after finding her alone at the house at around 10.30 pm yesterday. The accused later absconded. Kadambini, who sustained injuries in his neck and face, was first rushed to the community health centre (CHC) at Niali and later shifted to SCB.

Though the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that prolong conflict between accused Ganesh and his younger brother Jogeswar might have led to the incident. Meanwhile, police have begun an investigation into the incident.
