Man stoned to death over land dispute in Odisha’s Malkangiri, 2 held

Bhubaneswar: A 30-year-old man was allegedly stoned to death over land dispute in Odisha’s Malkangiri district recently.

The deceased has been identified as Bhima Sodi, son of Lachha Sodi, of Mudakhala village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri.

An argument ensued between deceased Bhima and two other villagers—Leka Padiami and Muka Padiami—over some land disputes soon after a community feast outside the village on November 6.

Soon Leka and Muka, who were in an inebriated state, hit Bhima with a stone several times. Bhima died at the spot, sources said.

The accused duo stuffed Bhima’s body in a gunny bag and dumped it in a nearby nullah to destroy the evidence, sources added.

Bhima’s body was found floating in the nullah near Sangel village, at least 8 km away from Mudakhala, today morning. On being informed, Kalimela police reached the spot and recovered the body, villagers said.

“We have registered a murder case in this regard and arrested the two accused. The deceased’s body has been handed over to his family after postmortem,” said an official of Kalimela police.
