Rourkela: A woman was allegedly killed by her husband by strangulating her throat nearly four days ago at Naditola locality of Vedavyas under Brahmanitaranga police limits in Rourkela of Sundargarh district. The incident came to the fore today after local police exhumed the victim woman’s body.

The deceased woman was identified as Phulamani Kerketa and her accused husband was identified as Ashok Kerketa, who belonged to the village. The man works as a daily wager to meet his household expenses.

According to a police source, an altercation had ensued between the man and his wife over a matter not known yet. Things took an ugly turn when, in a fit of rage, Ashok strangled his wife’s throat leading to her untimely death. Later, with the help of some of his neighbours, Ashok buried the woman.

“The alleged killing was a fallout of a family feud. The woman was buried under the ground by the accused man to escape the eyes of the police,” Phulamani’s brother mentioned in the FIR lodged with the police.

After the body was exhumed, Brahmanitaranga police detained Ashok and a few of his neighbours. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a detailed probe into the suspicious death.
