Man thrashed to death over sorcery suspicion in Odisha’s Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A 40-year-old man was allegedly thrashed to death by villagers over suspicion of practising sorcery at Orelguda in Poteru area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

According to reports, one Deba Banjami of the village died yesterday while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital. He was hospitalised after he complained of sickness.

However, his family members suspected that sorcery by Jaga Kabasi of the village led to deterioration of Banjami’s health condition which resulted in his death.

Later, kin of Banjami barged into the house of Kabasi, dragged him outside and thrashed him to death with lathis on village road.

A complaint in this regard has been lodged at the Kalimela police station and investigation is underway.
