Man thrashes estranged wife on Balasore Family Court premises

Balasore: Unruly scenes unfolded on the premises of the Balasore Family Court here today as a man allegedly thrashed his estranged wife with a helmet.

According to reports, Ratikant Panigrahi and his wife Rashmirekha Panigrahi of Majhikia area under Chandipur police limits in the district had filed a divorce petition three years ago.

While the two had come to the court for the hearing of the case, a heated exchange of words erupted between them. It later turned violent as he started attacking his wife with a helmet.

The woman sustained injuries on her head and fell unconscious. She was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

“My father said something objectionable to my mother regarding my marriage. As she opposed it, he thrashed her with a helmet,” the daughter of the couple said.
