A woman sustained severe injuries after her husband and his accomplice splashed acid on her face and fled the spot today at Satmile chowk under Hindol sub-division in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

Hindol police have visited the hospital and are investigating the matter.

According to reports, Runi daughter of Harihar Nayak of Kainjhar village under Kaniha police station limits in Angul district was married to one Bikash Nayak, son of Ganeswar Nayak of Nuapatna village under Rasol police station limits in 2009. Runi has a son out of her marriage to Bikash.

However, following a family feud Runi and her son were staying at the correctional home at Panchmahala in Angul. Since Runi was not visiting her in-laws place, her husband Bikash had filed a case against her at the Senior Civil Judge Court here a few months back.

While Runi had come to the court today in connection with the case, Bikash too had come.

After work at the court was over, Bikash had taken Runi on a ride on his bike towards Satmile. Bikash stopped his bike in a deserted place on the road on the pretext of meeting a friend.

Believing her husband’s words, Runi alighted from the bike and was standing on the roadside when one of Bikash’s friends appeared on the scene on another bike. Suddenly, the other biker who was carrying a bottle splashed its contents on Runi.

With her face burning under the effect of the acid Runi cried for help however, her husband and the attacker fled the spot after the incident.

Hearing her cries for help, locals rescued her and rushed her to the government hospital at Khajuriakata.

However, she was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Angul as her condition deteriorated.
