Man who immolated himself in front of police station in Odisha’s Cuttack dies

Cuttack: A 52-year-old man, who had set himself on fire in front of the Kishan Nagar police station in Salepur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district yesterday, succumbed to burn injuries today.

Deceased Gunanidhi Bisoi of Sainparua in Ishani Brahmapur panchayat breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

Bisoi set himself ablaze yesterday at around 11 am after pouring petrol on his body. He was rescued in a critical condition and hospitalised.

According to reports, he was allegedly thrashed and injured by his nephew over property dispute.

Though he had lodged a complaint with the Kishan Nagar police in this regard, no action was taken against the accused.

It is being alleged that he took the extreme step of immolating himself over police inaction and his complaint being ignored by the cops.

While the accused has now been arrested, Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore has written to the Odisha DGP recommending action against the IIC of the police station.
