Maoist camp busted in Odisha’s Sundergarh

Rourkela: The Rourkela police busted a Maoist camp during a combing operation in Champajharan Reserve forest under Chandiposh police limits of Sundergarh district today.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Rourkela police and DVF, SOG and Aplha-19 Battalion of CRPF jointly conducted the raid late last night. However, the Maoists managed to give the cops a slip prior to the operation.

During the raid, the team seized several Maoist items, including four tiffin bombs, electric wires used for manufacturing of explosives and uniforms from the spot. Rourkela SP Umashankar Dash headed the team.

Speaking to mediapersons, DIG Kavita Jalan said around 20 to 25 Maoists were camping in the area under the leadership of Sundergarh-Sambakpur-Deogarh (SDS) division zonal commander Anmol.

“The combing operation is still on and the Rourkela police will nab the ultras soon,” she added.
