Maoist carrying Rs 5 lakh bounty surrenders in Odisha

Malkangiri: A Maoist carrying cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head surrendered before police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district today.

Maoist Kamlu Beti of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh gave up arms and surrendered before Shefeen Ahamed K, DIG of police, South Western Range, Koraput. Beti was operating as the Area Committee Secretary of Kangerghati Area Committee of the Maoists.

He was allegedly involved in several violent activities including killing of civilians, destroying public properties and exchange of fire with security forces.

Beti decided to join the mainstream of the society after realising the futility of violent path of Naxalism, police sources said, adding that he was disappointed with the behaviour of senior Maoist leaders.

He will get monetary assistance as per the Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme of the Odisha Government. He will also get financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade/vocation of his will.
