Kalimela: A Maoist dump was recovered yesterday by a joint team of district voluntary force (DVF) and special operations group (SOG) personnel following a search operation at a place under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district, a police source said today.

Based on specific information received from a reliable source, the team carried out an intensive search at the place bordering Andhra-Odisha, resulting in the uncovering of a major Maoist dump in a forest near Kurmanur village at about 4.30 PM. This led to the recovery and seizure of a huge cache of ammunition, IEDs, and other Maoist articles, a press release issued in this regard mentioned.

Details of the recovered articles are:

The unlawful activities of ultras in the area have witnessed an increase and they are now attempting to reactivate their Dalams (groups) in different areas. Intelligence is being taken and surveillance is being intensified in such vulnerable areas, the official communiqué stated.

“The recovery is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national design of Maoists in this area. We suspect that these explosives along with other articles belong to the Maoist cadres of AOBSZC and were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities and to establish their presence again in this area. In the wake of the recovery, further combing and search operations are underway in this area,” a senior official said.
