Maoist killed in encounter with security forces in Odisha

Phulbani: Couple of days after the death of four Maoists in an encounter with security forces at Sirla forest under Tumudibandha police limits of Odisha’s Kandhamal district, another Maoist was killed during an exchange of fire with security forces at the same forest yesterday evening.

“On 06.07.2020 at 6.30 PM, Maoists did heavy firing from an advantageous position and lobbed grenades at SOG and DVF jawans. Police party immediately took cover and asked Maoists to stop firing and surrender. Some police personnel sustained injuries,” Odisha Police said in a release.

Due to retaliation by police, the Maoists fled the spot. During the post-operation search, the body of a Maoist along with a kitbag was found. Two country-made weapons have also been seized from the place, the release added.

Combing operation by SOG and DVF jawans was intensified in the area after the incident.

Notably, as many as four Maoists including two female cadres were gunned down during an exchange of fire between the ultras and security forces in Sirla reserve forest area on July 5.
