Maoist Martyrs’ week begins, security tightened in Odisha

Malkangiri: With the beginning of Maoist Martyrs’ week from today in Malkangiri and other areas, security has been beefed up in the forest interiors to avoid any untoward incident in the Maoist dominated districts.

In view of the martyrs’ week being observed by the red rebels till August 3, the authorities have suspended the government bus operation in Malkangiri.

The security forces have intensified the combing operations in the border area to stop the ultras from attacking locals and destroying the public properties.

Although, no untoward incident has been reported so far in Odisha, the Maoists started playing with blood gunning down a local at Kumkumgudi village in Visakhapatnam district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh suspecting him to be a police informer today.

The Maoist poster was found near Midiapanga under Baliguda police limits of Kandhamal district urging the locals to join the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) against anti-naxal operation ‘Green Hunt’.

More posters and banners also surfaced near Sohela in Bargarh district and in Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district asking people to observe the Maoist Martyrs’ week.

Yesterday, Maoists had released an audio tape asking the locals to observe Sahid Saptah to commemorate the cadres killed by the security forces.
