Maoist posters against Tel River, Sati Ghat projects found in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Jharigam: Posters in name of Maoists opposing proposed Tel River and Sati Ghat projects were found in Jharigam of Nabarangpur district in Odisha.

Through the posters, the members of Bhakpa group of CPI Maoists expressed their protest against the two development projects to be carried out by Jharigam Block Administration in Nabarangpur district threatening the contractors of dire consequences for construction of a dam over the Tel River.

The posters were found at central nursery near Jharigam and Jharigam-Chandahandi Road.

On receiving information about it, the Jharigam police seized those posters.

According to reports, the district administration has decided to start construction of a dam over the Tel River at Telanadigam panchayat under Jharigam Block. While the proposed project is being opposed by a few villagers of Telanadigam panchayat, Umerkote and Raighar Blocks, the members of Mainpur Nuapada Divisional Committee of banned CPI (Maoist) objected the project through the posters.

In the posters, the red rebels expressed concerns for the residents, who will be displaced due to Tel River project.

“Due to construction of river dam, over 10,000 people of Jharigam, Umerkote and Raighar blocks will be affected,” the poster read citing that the present MP and MLA are against the people.

They exhorted the residents to get united against the state government to stop the ‘anti-people’ dam project.

The Maoists also opposed the proposed Sati Ghat project to be undertaken near Gabaguda village under Jharigam block in the LWE affected district.
