Maoists call for Odisha Bandh on May 20

Balangir: Maoists reportedly put up banners at different locations in Lathor village under Patnagarh Sub-division here in the district for Odisha Bandh on May 20.

Two Maoists posters were found at Bazaar Pendal between Putkelchuan and Ghunsar located under Khaprakhol Block in Balangir district today morning.

The Maoists called for state-wide shutdown through banners written in Hindi and Odia languages against police atrocity. Reportedly, the red rebels appealed to civilians to make the bandh successful in the State.

As many as 20 red rebels have been gunned down by security personnel in last two years in the State. Protesting the police atrocity, the Maoists have called for Odisha Bandh on May 20 (Friday), the banners written by CPI (Maoist) organisation read.

Through the banners, the Maoists urged people to protest crackdown launched by ‘Hindutva’ and ‘fascist’ Government against civilians.

On receiving information, Police seized the Maoist posters and banners.

Sources said that the functioning of weekly market remained ‘unhampered’ and both consumers and sellers were seen engaged in their activities at markets despite the banners and posters by Maoist organisation.
