Marital discord: Ollywood actress Varsha’s statement could not be recorded, case postponed

Cuttack: Actress Varsha Priyadarshini today appeared before the family court here in a case pertaining to her marital discord with actor-turned-politician Anubhav Mohanty.

The court had earlier summoned Varsha to record her statement in the case.

The statement recording process deferred to tomorrow amid allegations that Anubhav’s lawyer Geeta Luthra posed certain objectionable questions to the actress.

Luthra reportedly posed her questions to Varsha in English. However, the actress gave her replies in Odia.

“My client Varsha Priyadarshini is fully cooperating the court to record her statement. But, Anubhav’s lawyer posed certain objectionable questions to her. These questions were not part the pleading. We raised our objection. The statement recording process has been deferred to tomorrow,” said Varsha’s lawyer Sidhartha Das.

On the other hand, Luthra rejected the allegations and claimed that she had asked certain questions to Varsha just to cross examine her statements in connection with the case.

“I have posed certain questions to Varsha to cross examine her statements. The matter has been deferred to tomorrow. The actress will answer those questions tomorrow,” Luthra added.

The family court had asked Varsha to appear before it on September 8 and record her statement. However, the actress had sought more time to appear before the court.

Notably, Anubhav had filed a petition in Delhi Patiala House court seeking divorce from Varsha. The actress, on the other hand, filed two cases in the Cuttack SDJM court alleging domestic violence and seeking restitution of her marital rights.

She had also approached the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the divorce petition from Patiala House court to the family court in Cuttack.

The apex court had accepted her plea and directed the Patiala House court to transfer the divorce petition filed by Anubhav to the Cuttack family court.
