Married Odisha woman set afire by in-laws succumbs

Cuttack: The 21-year-old woman, who was set on fire allegedly by her in-laws couple of days back in Kendrapara district, today succumbed while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The deceased was identified as Rashmita Sahu.

As per reports, the woman’s in-laws tied her to a cot and sprinkled kerosene on her. They then set her on fire. She was rescued by the neighbours and admitted to SCB with 90 per cent burns.

Following the incident, three of the five accused were arrested. Two other accused – her another sister-in-law and husband – are absconding.

Quoting from the complaint filed in this regard, a police official said the woman was tortured for dowry by her in-laws since her marriage in June, 2018.
