Massive fire breaks out at Kalupada ghat of Odisha’s Chilika lake

Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out at the Kalupada ghat of Odisha’s Chilika lake today.

The grasslands near Kalupada ghat in Khurda district caught fire in the afternoon. The blaze soon engulfed several bushes near a fishing jetty at Kalupada.

On being informed, a team of the Forest department led by Chilika Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Amlan Nayak rushed to the spot.

The team took at least 4 hours to douse the flames.

The fire did not spread to the Nalbana Bird Sanctuary inside the Chilika lake. So, there was no loss to the wildlife at the sanctuary, said the Forest department.

The Forest department also revealed that no fishing boat or net kept at Kalupada jetty was damaged in the fire.
