Maximum tickets to women for Lok Sabha, Assembly polls: Odisha Congress

Bhubaneswar: After BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik declared 33 % reservation for women in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Odisha Congress today said that it will give priority to women during distribution of tickets for the upcoming general elections.

Speaking to mediapersons, Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik said as per the direction of All India Congress Committee (AICC), the the party will give more tickets to women in the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections starting April 11.

Besides, youth and fresh faces with ability to win the polls will be given preference during allotment of tickets, he added.

Patnaik further said that the list of candidates for first, second and third phase of the elections have already been shortlisted. The candidate list for first phase polls will be released by 18.

On former CM Janaki Ballabh Patnaik’ son Prithivi Ballabh Patnaik contesting the polls, the OPCC President said, “Prithvi is not interested to contest in the elections. He has personally said this to me. Still, if he wants to contest from Begunia Assembly Constituency, the party will take a decision in this regard.”
