MCI halts admission to 250 MBBS seats in Odisha

With counselling for admission to medical colleges scheduled to begin tomorrow, the Medical Council of India (MCI) decision to halt admission to 250 MBBS seats in the state has caused dismay and disappointment among aspiring medical students in Odisha.

The MCI has put on hold admission to 100 seats each in the Hi-Tech medical college in Rourkela and Sardar Rajas medical college in Kalahandi and 50 out of the 150 seats in city based Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on the grounds of lack of the required infrastructure.

Notably, both Hi-Tech and Rajas had admitted 100 students each last year.

There are a total of 650 MBBS and 150 BDS seats in the state of which counselling would begin for 85% of the seats by Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) tomorrow. SCB Medical College in Cuttack will be the nodal centre for the counselling.

Students can register themselves for counselling till August 28.
