MCL Odisha CMD AN Sahay elected MGMI president

Sambalpur, Sept 15: AN Sahay, chairman-cum-managing director, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), Odisha, has been elected the new president of the Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI).

Sahay was unanimously elected president of the MGMI for the year 2014-15 at the 108th annual general meeting of MGMI at Kolkata yesterday.

A mining engineer and alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Sahay has over 38 years of experience in industry and had held many important positions.

He has also worked as the coal controller with the Centre which entails administration of various statutes like Colliery Control Order 2000, Coal Mines (Conservation and Development) Act, 1974 and the related rules, Coal Bearing Areas Act, 1957, Collection of Statistics Act, 1953 etc.

Besides, he has handled challenging task of monitoring and facilitating expeditious development of captive coal blocks.

Before joining as CMD of MCL, Sahay was director (Technical) in the CMPDI from November 2007 to February 2011.

MGMI was established in 1906 with an objective of promoting study of all branches of mining methods and of mineral occurrences in India with a view to disseminating the information for facilitating the economic development of the mineral industries in the country.
