Medical negligence: Odisha woman carrying stillborn babies dies

Baripada: Amidst country wide doctors’ protest against brutal assault on two medics in West Bengal, tension brewed in Odisha following death of a pregnant woman carrying stillborn babies at Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Medical College and Hospital in Mayurbhanj district.

The matter came to fore in media when the family members of the deceased woman staged dharna keeping body on the ground in front of the collectorate today.

The family members alleged that the pregnant woman died due to medical negligence by the doctors at the state-run hospital. They demanded compensation and strong action against the doctors for negligence for which the woman died.

According to reports, the pregnant woman of Khunta village in Odisha’s tribal district Mayurbhanj was admitted to the PRM Medical College & Hospital on June 11 following death of her unborn twins detected by the medical tests in a private clinic.

However, alleged medical negligence by doctors at the state-run hospital claimed the patient’s life.

“The doctors at the PRM Hospital did not attend to the patient properly. We came to know about the death of the unborns after the patient underwent medical tests in a clinic,” said Dasarathi Murmu, the deceased’s husband.

We want justice from the administration and action against the doctors for medical negligence at the hospital, he added.
