Medical student drowns in Huluhula Ganda of Rushikulya River in Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: A male student of Berhampur MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) today drowned as his legs slipped in Huluhula Ganda of Rushikulya river near Bhagabanpur village under Sorada police limits in Ganjam district.

The deceased medico has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Padhy, the son of Bijaya Kumar Padhy from Gosaninuagaon locality of Berhampur City.

According to a source, Rakesh along with his three friends had gone to Huluhula Ganda for picnicking. Later, Rakesh went to the water body to take a bath, where his legs slipped and he fell into deep water. He got swept away and went missing leading to his untimely death. Rakesh’s three friends tried to locate the young doctor but to no avail.

On being informed, a team of fire services personnel reached the spot and launched a frantic search. Rakesh’s body was fished out after striving for long hours earlier tonight.

Rakesh was taken to a nearby community health centre (CHC), where doctors declared him ‘dead’.

Sorada police have seized the body and initiated a probe into the incident.
