Burla, Jun 5:
The six-month long agitation of Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) has finally, paid off with the arrival of a Rs 9 crore worth Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner and a LED Photo Therapy equipment worth Rs 40 lakh in the premises of the premier hospital in western Odisha.
The JDA today celebrated the moment as ‘Vijay Divas’ by bursting crackers and sharing sweets among themselves. Members of the JDA visited different wards and distributed sweets to patients to celebrate the moment of joy.
“Now patients can avail these facilities within the hospital premises. The female Medicine ward has been shifted to a new building. To meet drinking water scarcity a bore well has been dug. The MRI scanner will be commissioned within 15 days. No longer will patients be required to visit private nursing homes for different tests. These will be done here,” said a beaming Shankar Ramchandani, president JDA.
“Earlier patients had to spend anything between Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 to get an MRI scan done in private nursing homes. Now it’s not going to happen. Several important tests pertaining to the brain tumor, spinal injuries, heart problems can be conducted here. Similarly, LED Photo Therapy equipment will be very helpful for treating newborns suffering from jaundice,” he added.
“Now we need not go to SCB Medical College and Hospital for these tests,” said a relative of a patient.
