Meet this percussionist of Fukrey Throwback, from Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Fukrey Throwback, a melodious recap of Bollywood comedy Fukrey which is the predecessor of Fukrey Returns released yesterday, has some stirring beats and rhythms given by Odisha’s Jayant Patnaik.

He is not just the percussionist but a member of the entire music team of this song. Watch the song here:

Born and brought up in Punjab, Jayant Patnaik stayed away from Odisha and yet remained close.

“My father belongs to Jagatsinghpur and mom is from Punjab. I have been living in Punjab but we had a Jagannath temple here and a proper Odia community. Odisha has always been a part of me wherever I went,” Jayant said.

He says that the first time he realized his love for percussion was when his father gifted him a Mridangam (khol) played in Jagannath temple. “My fingers would never rest. I would keep on tapping tables, door, or anywhere I would sit. That’s when I started learning tabla. Gradually my interest for western music developed and I learnt drumming from YouTube,” he added.

Fukrey throwback is not his first time in Bollywood. He has also worked in movies like Hanuman Returns and other short films. He was also seen on the first episode of the Kapil Sharma Show last year. “Arranging music for IPL advertisement was the best experience ever,” he continued. He has also been a part of the song ‘Gulbadan’ from the movie Firangi, starring Kapil Sharma, as the percussionist.
